The Flip Video
This is freakin’ awesome… Pure Digital Technologies developed the Flip Video about a year ago and has already captured 13% of the camcorder market! And… since the new model, the Flip Ultra seen above, debuted 6 months ago, its been amazon.com’s best seller in video recorders…
There is beauty in its simplicity… a tiny 1.5 inch screen, it doesn’t swing out for self portraits, you can’t snap still photos, no tapes, no discs, no memory card, no menus, no settings, no video light, no special effects, no high def, no lens cap, and no bullshit! Instead the Flip has focused on the essence of video capture. Perfect for grabbing those quick moments ready to film in less than 2 seconds (just turn on power and hit the red record button)… a must for those youtube stunt enthusiasts. You can play your clips to review or trash them with the corresponding buttons… And that’s it! No user manual needed…
I love the USB jack that flips out to plug into my laptop and its compatibility with iMovie… the quality is ridiculously good for this fun, cheap $180.00 60min version toy… Oh and my birthday is coming up in case anyone is looking for good gift ideas!!!

March Madness
The NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament (March Madness) begun today… loving it! I got my teams picked - UNC, Texas, Wisconsin, Pitt to name a few… but lets talk sports team logos… I hate the final four logos… they always have gradients that look tacky and cartoonish. The cheesy hat and belt looks like some american fast food joint too. One logo I do like is the new Washington Capitals logo. Its kind of a throw-back to their original logo and I just love the perspective on the letter “L” like a hockey stick… simple and sharp which produces well in black and white, key for a proper logo! Its no wonder why there is a large increase in throw-back uni sales… because those old 2D designs and shapes of yesterday still look good today.

Sanna Annukka

Most notably known for her illustrations on Keane’s Album Under the Iron Sea, Sanna Annukka has a magical folklore style that looks unbelieveable in print. Inspried by her Finnish background, nature, and music, Sanna’s able to create flat 2D illustrations that pop! She starts by designing block shapes and silhouettes, then gradually infuses patterns and details. Her colour palates are chosen with great care and I love the way the negative space joins her compositions by flowing through the illustraions as if it were a colour swatch itself. Go buy some of her beautiful prints here…

The Hanks
A friend turned me on to this band The Hanks who just dropped their new album on myspace. You can’t get it on iTunes yet ’cause they raised funds and produced it themselves, sans record label, but you can listen and order from their myspace. I love the use on Avant Garde type and the photograph is dead on. I wonder if the little white dust and hair particles were photoshopped or not. Very cool non the less…
Wall Graphics

www.glasfurdandwalker.com
A very creative way to decorate your boring wall is to “tattoo” it with a piece of vinyl. Seen above are two local companies using vector graphics and clever uses of type to enhance interior spaces. check out Surface Collective where you can order pre designed decals or try this edgy studio Glasfurdan&Walker for your identity and branding needs. Its a killer way to spruce up your pad and avoid a messy paint job so I think I’m definitely going to produce some wall graphics soon…
